Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was forced into musical training at an early age by his father, an abusive alcoholic, who hoped to produce another prodigy like Mozart. Ludwig gave his first public concert at age eight, though his father advertised his age as six to compare favorably with Mozart. Despite the treatment he received from his father, Beethoven developed a passion for music. He traveled to Vienna, where he met Mozart and studied briefly with Haydn, and soon became known across Europe as a great composer and improviser.
Sometime before 1800, Beethoven became aware that he was losing his hearing. Despite this obstacle, he continued to compose, producing some of the most popular classical compositions. Beethoven's music is often considered the bridge from the graceful, balanced music of the Classical era to the more passionate, unrestrained music of the 19th-century Romantics.

Beethoven's 2nd is the second installment of the Beethoven adventure and is directed by Rod Daniel. The movie starts with Beethoven and his family at home, George, Alice and their three children Ryce, Ted and Emily Newton. After the family goes to work and school, Beethoven sneaks out of the yard and goes about his own day. Beethoven meets Missy, another St. Bernard, while stopping for an ice cream cone. Missy is in the middle of a bitter divorce settlement between her owners Regina and Brillo. Regina has custody of Missy until Brillo can pay her $50,000. Beethoven follows Regina's car and helps Missy escape off of the porch. The two spend time together and Missy ends up having four puppies in the cellar of Regina's condo building. Ted and Emily become suspicious of Beethoven's disappearances and follow him when he leaves their house one day and discover the puppies. Regina also finds the puppies and wants to drown them before she realizes they are worth money. Ted and Emily sneak the puppies out and hide them in the basement of their house. With the help of their sister, Ryce, the three kids alternate around the clock to bottle feed the four puppies. Their parents eventually find out and the kids convince them to let the puppies stay until they are old enough to go to new homes. The Newton's are offered a free stay at a lake house belonging to one of his associates. Beethoven and his puppies accompany the family on their trip. The family and the dogs go to the county fair where George and Beethoven take part, and win, a burger eating contest. Beethoven wanders off from his family to discover Missy in a parked car. He helps get her free and the two go off. Around the same time, Regina finds Ted and Emily with the puppies and takes them. The kids find their parents and Ryce and the family goes off after them. After some persuasion they get the puppies back and Missy ends up back with Brillo in the end.
